Our Advocacy

Our chocolates are made through the efforts of many people.

We employ more than 50 in-house farmers for our own farm. These are farmers whose passion is farming, but they do not have their own lands to till.

In addition to our own harvest of cacao beans, we closely work with and source from small farmers in the area to promote sustainability in the community. They supply us with wet beans that come from their small landholdings.

In 2007, the Mars Cocoa Sustainability Team set up the Mars Cocoa Development Center with the Puentespina family. From them we learned to process high-quality beans that we were eventually able to export.

We in turn passed on this knowledge to local farmers.

Part of our farm became a training facility for local farmers to learn good agricultural practices on cacao farming.

This raised considerably the value of the cacao beans they harvested from their small farms, and multiplied their earnings from their crops.
